The “saviour” of our new era
Plastic came a few years ago to revolutionize our daily lives in an unimaginable magnitude, at least until that moment, becoming of vital importance in many diferent fields such as medicine, communication, construction, even reducing notably the costs that meant using glass as the main packaging product, with the pro that plastic is way easier to handle. In fact, trying to live in these times in the absence of plastic might be considered as madness.
It is maybe the most useful “invention” in the whole history, at least in the modern civilization, but in some point along the way it got out of our hands. When i say this i really mean it:
Plastic by itself is not the problem, the problematic lies in the irresponsible way that we’ve been using this resource. We’re used to buy, use, consume; everything we do it like plastic disappears the instant its out of our sight and our reach.
This problem has been heavily enhanced by the constant growth of the technology, the constant modernization that surrounds us; vehicles more plastified, glass and aluminium substitution as main packacking materials. This evolution has not gone hand in hand with social awareness and environmental culture. Putting it into plain letters, we are to blame.
For our fortune, there’s something that can gives us some hope: a part of the world has rapidly reacted trying to solve these in different ways, being the most noticeable one: The cleaning of beaches and coasts.
The cleanest person ain’t the one that cleanses the most, but who dirties the least. That is why i consider that beaches cleaning by itself, it’s like treating a wound with vapor rub.
Im not trying to diminish all the work a ton of people it’s been doing by these cleanings, because is not only a great environmental measure but a psychological one. It Helps you notice the impact the society and its waste has been affecting our home planet.
But my dear, where do you wanna go with all these??
Well, im not saying we should take other route, what we ought to do it’s to accompany this with the pillar of sustainibility: Conscious consumption. Let’s us stop and think the final destination of all the products we tipically use. In simple words, let’s lean on our holy trinity: REDUCE, REUSE, RECICLE ♻️
In conclusion, plastic it’s the coolest thing but it’s gotten out of our control. Like Peter Parker it’s been cringely saying for years now: “With great power comes great responsibility”.
Choose Wisely folks.
Thanks for the time and until the next time,
